NASA Images Show Stunning Progress of China’s Vast 850MW Longyangxia Solar Park
Reported by: PV Magazine, February 24, 2017
Satellite images in January captured the four million solar panels installed on a major site in China since similar images were taken in 2013. The vast site now covers almost 30 square kilometers of sparsely populated land close to the edges of the Gobi Desert. This solar park has now become the largest in the world. China is currently constructing an even larger installation in the Ningxia region. China’s rapid embrace of solar energy has quickly propelled the nation to first place globally in terms of cumulative capacity installed. Solar currently meets just 1% of China’s energy demand, but the government is aiming to draw 20% of its power from renewable sources by 2030.
